Ministry/ Organization

Audio-Visual Ministry:
The Audio Visual Ministry is responsible for the enhancement of the worship experience through sound and videography. The ministry with a current staff of seven dedicated Christian individuals, is available for all programs classes and other special events of the church upon request.

Greeters Ministry:
The mission of The Greeters Ministry is to show the love of Christ and the warmth of First Baptist Church with a smile and a welcoming heart.

Celestial School of the Arts:
CSOTA (the Celestial School of the Arts) is a ministry of First Baptist Church whose mission is to provide private and class music and art instruction to both the church community and the Hampton Roads community students. Instruction is available to all ages in piano, organ, voice, guitar, songwriting, art, percussion, violin and other instruments as requested. All classes are held at First Baptist Church and each year is culminated with a recital and art exhibit featuring all students.

Music Committee:
The responsibility of the Music Committee in cooperation with the Pastor, serves as a guiding body for the Music Ministry and serves as liaison between the Music Ministry and the official Boards and Ministries of the church. Their duties are to report to the official Ministry any concern of the department whose solution is outside the realm of the committee, to recommend with the Minister of Music and Arts the annual budget, to assist in interviewing persons considered for employment in the Church and to evaluate programs of the department and make recommendations for improvement.

Albert Holden Men’s Choir:
is comprised of men of First Baptist Church, both young and old. The mission of the choir is to provide musical witness and testimony through songs of praise. Through their ministry in morning worship and outreach services, All members are committed to the promotion of God’s kingdom here on earth and Christian fellowship in Christ.

Anointed Vessels Youth Choir:
Anointed Vessels is an energetic group of youth, ages 13 – 18. The members of this choir are on fire for God and that fire is represented in their performances of contemporary styled Christian music in Youth Sunday worship services and community requests.

Gospel Choir:
The Gospel Choir, a group of 65 men and women who enjoy ministering in the gospel style, is an integral part of the Department of Music and Arts Ministry. The choir participates as scheduled in Sunday morning worship services by praising God through the gospel music genre. While gospel music, both traditional and contemporary, is the primary focus, the choir is quite versatile and has a variety of music styles within its extensive repertoire.

Divine Inspiration - Liturgical Dancers:
Divine Inspiration is comprised of spirit-filled young adult ladies who prepare the parishioners for worship using more contemporary styles of music. Their message is clear – The Glory of God.

Praise in Motion – Liturgical Dancers:
Praise ‘N Motion is a dance ministry designed to offer young girls technical training in ballet and fundamental movement skills in a Christian setting. Guided by Psalm 149:3 "Let us praise His name with dancing.." classes cultivate discipline in movement and choreography to music that is biblically based.

Wings of Praise – Liturgical Dancers:
Wings of Praise Liturgical Dance Ministry is comprised of women whose focus is to glorify the Lord through dance and enhance the worship experience with expressions and movement. Various forms of music are used such as spirituals, gospel songs, and hymns. The group is open to all adults in the congregation regardless of their level of dance experience.

Platinum, Silver & Gold – Liturgical Dancers:
Silver, Gold, Platinum is a group composed of those whom God has blessed with many years of experience. Some of the dancers are retired while others have yet to make that choice. Most of their ministerial renditions are portrayed through soft basic ballet movements, gentle interpretive dance, all with the occasional interface enhancement of some sign language gestures.

Christian Fellowship Choir:
The Christian Fellowship Choir began its ministry forty years ago with a dedicated group of singers who enjoy ministering with all styles of Christian music. The choir performs anthems, hymn arrangements, spirituals and gospel arrangements and is often called upon to concertize in various parts of the United States and in area churches. While some of its members are trained musicians, the majority are singers with very little musical training but who are willing to grow in their musical skills.

Praise Team Choir:
The First Baptist Church Praise Team is a dedicated group of 10 singers who provide the Praise and Worship experience for the morning worship service and other services at the Pastor’s request. Their mission is to serve the Lord by bringing the congregation into active participation in the service. The Praise Team leads the worship experience with contemporary, gospel and traditional genres of music.

Praise Band:
Under the direction of Mr. Joshua Head, the Praise Band accompanies the Gospel Choir and other choirs when contemporary repertoire is a part of their ministry, provides instrumental accompaniment for the morning worship services and other special occasions for the church upon request. Consisting of saxophone, trombone, bass, piano, keyboard and drums, the Praise Band seeks to expand its membership and its presentation of worship to the congregation.

Angel Choir:
The Angel Choir is an exciting group of children, ages 5 to 12. Their hearts and voices bring much joy to the congregation as they render their ministry in song and movement.

Women’s Choir:
The Women’s Choir is a group of adult women of First Baptist Church who minister on fifth Sundays, on Women’s day and other services are scheduled. The Women’s Choir will bless your heart and soul while singing songs that range in style from the Negro spirituals to contemporary.

Handbell Choir:
The ETGHandbell Choir has been ringing for the past 15 years, performing medium to difficult arrangements. Members have experience in reading music. The choir has performed in concerts , and provides a different genre of music ministry to the worship experience.

Sanctuary Bells Choir:
Consists of up to 13 men and women who perform level 1 and 2 music. The group, organized in 2001, is comprised primarily of members who possess beginning musical skills. Their ministry is focused on bringing souls to Christ with the quiet delicacy of the handbell sound.

Speak Life Drama:
It is the mission of the Speak Life Drama Ministry to glorify God through the dramatic presentation of plays and skits. The desire is to reach believers and non-believers of all ages and encourage each other by creatively portraying clear thematic messages. The mission is that these messages will uplift and minister to those who bear witness both within and beyond the walls of the church.

Visual Arts & Photography:
The mission of First Baptist Church arts and photography ministry is to display and feature the artistic, literary and inbreed talents that God has blessed the members of our church and community as well. Photography is the means to chronicle the important events for historical record. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit this ministry serves as another avenue in which souls may be drawn to Christ.

Events Coordinator:
The mission and purpose of the Events Coordinator is ensuring the smooth operation of programs of the church, most especially the morning worship experience. The coordinator deals with logistics and personnel who service in the various ministries of the church as it concerns the programs.

FBC MASS Choir:
The mission of the FBCMASS Choir is to provide a cohesive, cooperative ministry consisting of singers from all choirs (youth and adult) and parishioners of the church who wish to commit. The choir ministers as all special church events, i.e. Christmas, Easter, Church Anniversary, Revival Sunday and various morning worship services as scheduled. The choir performs anthems, hymn arrangements, contemporary, gospel and spirituals. It is a combined effort of music ministry of the church.

Announcement Ministry:
The mission of the Announcement Ministry is to extend greetings to visitors and parishioners during the morning worship service. It is the desire of the ministry to warmly invite each person to welcome one another in Christian love. The ministry also recognizes anniversaries, birthdays, and groups worshipping together in acknowledgement of God’s continual grace and mercy.
