BI201 - Discovering Spiritual Maturity
Sister Shirley Young and Deacon Linda Copeland - Instructors - 7:30 p.m. Only
Course Description: This course is offered with an emphasis on the importance of growing in Christ. While new birth is the necessary beginning of our relationship with God, it is God's desire and will that every believer develops and deepens the relationship. To be born again is to be spiritually birthed into God's family. Once we're born into God's family, God wants us to grow up. Just like we've experienced a physical birth that gave us the desire to grow physically, we've also experienced a spiritual birth that is expecting us to grow spiritually. By the end of this period of instruction, the desired outcome is to grow stronger in our faith commitment to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Also, it is hoped and expected that we will practice with regularity those commitment principles that assist with our spiritual growth.
BI301 - Discovering My Ministry
Minister Delrose Porter, Minister Doris Walker and Deacon Goldie Miles - Instructors
Course Description: This course, which centers on one's commitment to serving Christ, is based on the belief that each member is uniquely created and gifted by God to fulfill their Christian call to serve. An indicator of one's spiritual maturity is reflected in the realization of one's Christian service. As such, the Discovering My Ministry class is designed to facilitate a growing awareness of one's purpose and place in the overall ministry of the church. In so doing, it affirms that no member of the church should be a mere ‘pew parishioner.' Instead each member is encouraged to actively engage in a process of reflection, discovery and reaffirmation of his/her God granted gifts. By the end of this study it is hoped and expected that all students will be able to articulate and faithfully exercise the gifts in their chosen ministry areas.
BI401 - Discovering My Mission
Deacon Wallace Arnold and Minister Mattie Stovall - Instructors
Course Description: This course communicates the importance of sharing Christ with others in fulfillment of one's Christian mission. This course recognizes that the process of Christian discipleship remains incomplete until the one who has come to a saving knowledge of Christ is able to share his/her faith with others. Beyond the sharing of our gifts within the congregational context, Christ desires that we share our faith in the world beyond. This course therefore examines the model Jesus established for effectively sharing the Good News of salvation, and the ways in which the weight of one's personal testimony can assist in facilitating the faith of others. The goal of this course is to assure that believers are made aware of the ways in which God has equipped them to extend the message of His love.
Abundant Life Series
Series Description:
Jesus taught, "I have come that you might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly." Many twenty-first century Christians, however, find themselves asking "What is the abundant life and how can I be assured that I am living a life that is in keeping with this promise?" These courses, therefore, will assist in providing a practical yet Biblically based response to these inquiries by taking a holistic study approach that seeks to understand abundant life through the lens of our relationships, finances and health with the Christian hope of eternal life in view. Our approach, primarily through the use of literature, the Bible, case studies, and guest lecturers, will serve to empower and enrich one's life by providing insights into the resources that are available for purposeful Christian living.
NOTE:Completion of the Core Biblical Studies Series
[BI101-BI401] is a prerequisite for enrollment in the BI500 series of courses offered in the

Advanced Study Series
BI501 - Abundant Life Series - Experiencing God - Part 1
Dr. Barbara Whitehead - Instructor
Text: Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God
Course Description: Are you seeking a deeper relationship with God? The advanced life changing course invites Christians to experience an even more intimate love relationship with God. Experiencing God provides more than 10 sessions that will teach the believer how to: "know when God is speaking; recognize God's activity around them; adjust their lives to God's well and God's ways; identify what God wants to do through them and respond to God's activity in their lives." By the end of this course each student will be revived, renewed, reenergized and divinely inspired to experience God in new and extraordinary ways and will understand the true essence of abundant living.
BI505 - The Revelation of Jesus Christ as Written by the Apostle John - Part 1 (Chapter 1 - 11)
Deacon Calvin Evans - Instructor - 7:30 p.m. Only
Course Description: The Bible is the symbolic account of the fall and restoration of the human soul to its divine origins. Genesis is the symbolic testimony of humanity's fall from heaven and paradise lost. The Book of Revelation is the symbolic testimony of humanity's restoration to heaven and paradise found. The Revelation of the Jesus Christ was written by a man named John (John the Apostle) toward the end of his life while imprisoned on the Island of Patmos. John records a vision he experiences. This vision contains a tremendous amount of symbolism; the same kind of symbolism one would see in a dream, a vision of the spirit world. In this course, we will unveil the allegory surrounding the mystic signs and symbols to better understand God's encouraging words and stern warnings to his people as we approach the end times.
BI514 - One Big Body with Reconciled Broken Down Barriers: The Study of the Epistle of the Ephesians
Deacon Willie Anderson - Instructor - 7:30 p.m. Only
Course Description: In this study of the Epistle to the Ephesians we will explore the message God gave to Paul to show us the steps we need to take to achieve our fulfillment in God. God has reconciled us to Himself on an act of grace. He also reconciled us saved individuals to each other, having Christ dying on the Cross. This broke down the barriers through His death. God then reconciled individuals in one body, the Church. The unity if the church under the headship of Christ foreshadows the uniting of "all things in heaven and on earth" under Christ. Let us learn how to become "Strong in the Lord", as we study His Word.
